The IT folks have a timeless existence. In the sense they have absolutely no sense of time. And every other person has attended some form of training in time management. Well this 101 topic is to simplify the concept of time management

Project Management 101 – What works and whats PMP.

TIME MANAGEMENT

This is a basic experiment that explains the entire concept of time management and the millions pages of literature written about it in a nutshell.

Resources

2 train stations – Station A & Station B.

2 Trains -

Train 1 – Runs from Station A to Station B. Starts at 12:00 hrs.

Train 2 – Runs from Station B to Station A. Starts at 4:00 hrs.

Time

The minimum traveling time between these stations is 5hrs.

Objective

Your are given 2 trains tickets for train 1 and train 2 respectively. You start from Station A at 12:00 hrs. Since it take 5hrs one way. You should be back by 10:00hrs. If you are not back by 10:00 hrs you will be shot to death. Will you undertake this journey or not.

The experiment points to one and only one thing

Resource + Time >= Objective  DO IT

Resources + Time < Objective DO NOT DO IT.

In the IT sector we mask this by various stupid techniques like scope reduction. Which is primarily tinkering your objective.

This is equivalent to saying… You’ve got x quantity of time and y resources at hand…. Do something man….
